March, 2014: Waller Smith & Palmer is pleased to announce that Attorney Edward B. O’Connell has accepted an invitation to become a James W. Cooper Fellow. The James W. Cooper Fellows nominate outstanding Connecticut lawyers, judges and teachers of law to become James W. Cooper Fellows. The Connecticut Bar Foundation then extends invitations to nominees who have been selected by the Fellows Nominating Committee and approved by the Board of Directors.
The Fellows Program is named in honor of James W. Cooper, who was a prominent New Haven attorney. Fellows are selected based upon their outstanding professional, public and private careers in which they have demonstrated extraordinary legal ability and devotion to the welfare of their community, state and nation and advancement of the legal profession.
Currently, the Fellows are working on several exciting programs and projects, which include the Connecticut Innocence Fund; high school essay contests; mentoring programs for new attorneys; Oral History of Connecticut Women in the Legal Profession; and Truancy Intervention Projects in New Britain and New Haven.
